Why try so hard to speak Patois?

$

0

The title of this article explains itself; it is questioning the fake Patois being spoken left, right and centre in dancehall music circles in Ghana.

But can anyone tell me how it is that when a Ghanaian artiste raps or sings or speaks like an American, he or she is condemned as speaking LAFA, (Locally Acquired Foreign Accent) and yet, when a dancehall artiste sings in Patois, he or she is considered as the Best Dancehall artiste?

Jamaica’s official language is Standard English; however, many Jamaicans speak Patois which is a separate dialect. It is also the dialect that is used by most Jamaicans in everyday conversation.

The idea for this piece came up after a very careful observation of Dancehall artistes in the entertainment industry. Except a few who sing or rap in the local Ghanaian languages, they all choose to speak Patois. I believe this is done in order to appear as close as possible to Jamaica, home of dancehall music.

When it comes to singing in Patois, dancehall fanatics fully support it. The artistes speak it and the fans love it.

The number of Ghanaian dancehall artistes who have ever stepped foot in Jamaica are only a handful. It is not clear where they learn to speak the language but sometimes, one is forced to believe that, the ability to speak Patois comes naturally to every dancehall artiste.

Strange as it may sound, I have noticed that, Ghanaian dancehall acts do not only use the Patois in their songs; in fact, they as well speak Patois during radio interviews as well.

The few who mix the Patois with Twi, Ga, Ewe, Hausa and other local languages should be commended because there is no way a Ghanaian dancehall act can share a spot with a Jamaican dancehall act in terms of speaking the Patois language.

Locally Acquired Foreign Accent (LAFA) is basically defined as a fake accent people put up when speaking the Queen’s language. People who are tagged LAFA are people who are considered to be fake when speaking the English language.

Such people make the language sound weird, especially when they do not have any travelling experience. A school of thought has it that, even having previous experience of travelling outside the country should not result in one speaking in LAFA.

The argument is stretched with Kofi Annan in the picture, the former Secretary General of the United Nations, who after many years of sojourning outside the borders of Ghana still has a clear diction and speaks in a Ghanaian accent. No LAFA matter when Kofi Annan is involved. He is easily understood when he speaks.

Private television station, Viasat1, ended a successful 2014 with the introduction of the maiden edition of The Jigwe Awards.

The aim of the awards as spelt out by the station was to award some key personalities that have not only appeared on their This Morning show but also, individuals, organisations and events that attracted the most headlines and have been the most talked about for various reasons in 2014.

In typical Ghanaian fashion and to show disdain for people who speak with fake accents, one of the categories was meant to make mockery of such people, especially when such personalities have never set foot outside the shores of Ghana.

The category in question was Most Jigwe L.A.F.A and the nominees included 4Syte TV and Live FM’s Jeremie van Gershong, GhOne and Starr FM’s Naa Ashorkor, actor, Chris Attoh, YFM and GhOne’s Black Boy.

Though on the day of the awards, that category was not awarded at all, whatever impression that the station wanted to create with that category and list was firmly cemented in the minds and hearts of Ghanaians.

The station cannot, however, be blamed since prior to that awards, the issue of which television or radio personalities spoke LAFA has been thoroughly discussed. They have been mocked, lambasted and bombarded by the Ghanaian public.

Aside the personalities mentioned above with fake accents, the likes of Sarkodie, Nadia Buari, D-Black, Reggie Rockstone, Confidence Haugen, Itz Tiffany, Kwaku T, Efya, Dee Money and in fact several others have also suffered the name calling as a result of how they express themselves in the Queen’s language which may not entirely be their fault.

The problem, however, which is the basis for this article is Ghanaian’s attitude about double standards in general.

Why hail and tag someone as the Best Dancehall act because they sing in Patois or because they sound Jamaican and turn back to criticise another set of people as LAFA for speaking like non-Ghanaians?

To the best of my knowledge, Stonebwoy or Samini speaking Patois or sounding like a Jamaican in their songs is the same as Jeremie or Blackboy speaking like people born and bred in New York or London; both sets of accents are fake and needs to be condemned without exception.

But if you condemn Jeremie or Blackboy as LAFA because of their accents and hail Stonebwoy or Samini as the best because they sound Jamaican, then to hell with your double standards.

Ridiculous! Nana Quame blacklisted for recording a song with Samini

Highlife returnee Nana Quame has made an interesting revelation about his inability to feature other Ghanaian musicians on his songs, after releasing his collaboration song “Akye” with Dancehall act, Samini.

“It’s not easy getting artists to feature on my songs currently” he said on eTV’s Late Night Celebrity Show.

According to the artiste with seven albums to his credit, many of the artists don’t want to work with him anymore.

He said he even approached one of such musicians about doing collaboration but he was told in plain words, that ‘I don’t want to do a track with you because you did one with Samini’.

“I called on some artists to feature them and they kept dragging their feet. And I even approached one who opened up and said ‘I don’t want to do a track with you because you did one with Samini”.

Nana Quame therefore has this advice: “I keep telling people, let’s give Samini the respect. He brought up the Dancehall. He held it for all the young once holding it now. Artists need to stop this beefing thing and do music. Let’s do the music.”

Rocky Dawuni to release new album “Branches of the Same Tree” (Cumbancha) March 31, 2015

International music star and humanitarian activist Rocky Dawuni straddles the musical boundaries between Africa, the Caribbean and the U.S. to create an appealing “Afro-Roots” sound that unites generations and cultures. Filled with uplifting and irresistible songs, Rocky’s sixth album, and first on Cumbancha, blends inspirations from his diverse experiences while expanding on his identity as an artist, a proud son of Africa and as a true world citizen. Cumbancha will release Branches of the Same Tree worldwide on March 31st, 2015.

Inspired by the soulful beats of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, the positive messages and deep grooves of Bob Marley and the infectious, sing-along anthems of Michael Franti, K’naan and Matisyahu, Rocky Dawuni’s songs blend elements of reggae, Afrobeat and global pop into an enticing new sound. The songs on Branches of the Same Tree also reflect influences of New Orleans funk, Brazilian samba, even the lilting sounds of Hawaiian ukulele, seamlessly integrated into a unique and approachable style. The album features appearances by an all-star lineup of guest musicians, including veterans from Michael Franti and Spearhead, Steel Pulse, Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals and Ziggy Marley. Already a superstar in West Africa with a devoted international fan base, Branches of the Same Treepromises to bring Rocky’s music to even wider audiences around the world.

Born in Ghana and based in Los Angeles, Rocky is a galvanizing performer whose infectious grooves and dance-inducing anthems have consistently excited fans. Blessed with easy-going charisma, Rocky has performed and collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel,Bono, Jason Mraz, Janelle Monae and John Legend, among many others. Named one of Africa’s Top 10 global stars by CNN, he’s showcased his talent around the world at major festivals and prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Rocky’s eloquence, cultural diplomacy and successful melding of music and activism have led him to become a passionate spokesperson for various global causes. He has joined forces with Product (RED), UNICEF, the Carter Center and the UN Foundation. In 2012, Rocky was appointed the Tourism and Cultural Ambassador of Ghana and World Ambassador for the Musicians Union of Ghana. The same year, he was named a United Nations Foundation Ambassador for the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, alongside actress Julia Robertsand chef José Andrés.

According to Rocky, “Branches of the Same Tree was inspired by the songs and melodies I have heard over the years during my travels. It contains snippets of my personal observations of various cultures and global musical developments.” The album’s title reflects Rocky’s belief that recognition of our shared humanity is the key to peaceful coexistence among all peoples of the world. “When we recognize we are all branches of the same tree we begin to see our common roots,” argues Rocky, “this is the cornerstone of true Oneness.”

The album’s first single, “African Thriller” was released on July 24th, 2014, followed by the launch of a music video on November 4th. Recorded in Ghana and Los Angeles, the song features legendary trumpeter Osei Tutu (Hedzole, Edikanfo, Ebo Taylor), CC Frank on drums (Fela Kuti) and Dean Gant (Anita Baker, Outkast) on keyboards. Jeremy Sole, a DJ, producer and host on the taste-defining Los Angeles radio station KCRW, remixed the single and album versions of “African Thriller.” The video has been featured on hundreds of global outlets including Entertainment Weekly, MTV, Channel O and VH1 and continues to gain momentum worldwide.

The album’s opening track, “Shine a Light,” is a catchy, radio-friendly anthem that incorporates a syncopated New Orleans-style rhythm, Brazilian percussion, a reggae underpinning and a sing-along chorus. As with many of Rocky’s songs, the message is inspirational and upbeat: “Light up the darkness / With a positive spirit / Oh let the sun shining in with a wave of a joyful sound / Whether high or low I will not be afraid / To lift my head up reach and touch the sky / Hey, I believe we can / Shine a light so bright / For the world to see.”

Branches of the Same Tree also demonstrates Rocky’s more introspective talents with the ballads “Butterfly” and “Island Girl.” The former is a Bob Marley composition that was never formally recorded by the reggae legend. Rocky adapted this version from a rough Marley demo, giving it a lilting tropical feel supported by long time Ben Harper collaborator Tom Freund on ukulele and Jack Johnson drummerAdam Topol. The simple yet enchanting closing track “Island Girl” also features Tom Freund on ukulele.

The Bob Marley influence is also apparent on Rocky’s cover of the iconic Marley and Peter Tosh composition “Get Up, Stand Up.” Rocky gives his version an Afrobeat touch and sings the lyrics in the Pidgin English vernacular of Ghana. Rocky’s commitment to political activism and cultural pride is further demonstrated on the powerful song “Black Star,” which features a guest appearance by Samini, a rising star in Ghana. “Black Star” celebrates Africa, calling for a new vision from the modern generation of Africans. It reaches for unity and strength among Africans as well as anyone around the world who shares the belief that the roots of mankind can be found on the continent.” Rocky sings out,Remember who you are / Remember where you are from / Then you gonna know which way the wind will blow / Educate your mind, dedicate your heart / That is the only way this victory will grow / Black Star arise show the people what you know.”

Rocky’s love of Africa and its people can also be felt on the song “Nairobi”, which was inspired by a trip he took to Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya during a very tense time in the country. It was right before their national elections, and tribal and political differences threatened the nation’s stability and security. Rocky wrote it as a love song for a city, country and people.

Other highlights on Branches of the Same Tree include “The Sign,” an Afro-Roots track that stresses the awareness of spirituality in our everyday lives, learning to trust one’s inner voice and accepting that a higher power guides the course of our lives. “Children of Abraham” is about recognizing shared destiny and choosing the path to peace over any path to war. “It was motivated by my trip to Israel and Palestine,” notes Rocky, “that moved me deeply and led me to think hopefully about the possibilities of peace and coexistence. My interaction with the people, and visits to mosques, churches and synagogues inspired the track.”

While Rocky explores a variety of new sounds and musical direction on his new album, he does not abandon his reggae roots, contributing two straight up African reggae tracks that will surely please his longtime fans. According to Rocky, “Rock Your Soul” is “a very personal song of love and relationships. It’s about how we can transcend life’s challenges if love leads our intentions.” Meanwhile, “We Never Stop” is “a track to put everyone on notice that roots rockers are back! We love to play music and the feeling of positivity and togetherness that it brings.”

Reflecting his maturity as an artist, Branches of the Same Tree highlights Dawuni’s ability to communicate a universal, uplifting message that crosses borders and reaches out to the hearts of millions.

AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS

  • Venue: Estadio De Mongomo
  • Date: Tuesday, 27/1/15
  • Kick-off: 18:00 GMT

MATCH PREVIEW

South Africa are without defender Thulani Hlatshwayo, who has not recovered from a concussion suffered in the 1-1 draw with Senegal.

And Bafana Bafana will give a late fitness test to defender Rivaldo Coetzee, who missed the last game because of a knee injury.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, who scored the winner against Algeria, will again lead the line for the Black Stars.

South Africa must win, while Ghana may only need a draw to go through.

Ghana are targeting a first Cup of Nations victory against South Africa as they bid to extend a record of reaching at least the semi-finals at each of the last four Nations Cups.

The Black Stars put an opening defeat to Senegal behind them when they beat Algeria thanks to a late goal from Gyan on his return from a bout of malaria.

However, midfielder Andre Ayew said: “We’re not taking anything for granted. Algeria is behind us and next is South Africa. It will be a very tough battle.

“Expectations back at home must now have risen, but Ghana have always dealt with the pressure.”

South Africa have the toughest task of all four contenders but coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba said: “We still have another game to play, so don’t write us off just yet.

“Football has its own miracles. With one game to go, we can still surprise a lot of people.”

AFCON 2015: Senegal 0 – 2 Algeria

Riyad Mahrez and Nabil Bentaleb were on target as Algeria beat Senegal 2-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations to secure a quarter-final place.

Senegal headed into the final round of games as group leaders, but their loss in Malabo coupled with Ghana’s comeback win over South Africa in Group C dumped Alain Giresse’s team out of the tournament.

Leicester City winger Mahrez capitalised in the 11th minute as a Senegal line-up, sent out in a reshaped 3-5-2 formation, struggled badly in the face of Algeria’s vibrant attacking play.

Giresse’s men muscled their way back into the contest and controlled much of the second half before Bentaleb beautifully converted Sofiane Feghouli’s pass from long range with eight minutes remaining to see his nation through as group runners-up.

Algeria passed up a glorious chance to lead the winner-takes-all clash inside two minutes after a dreadful error from Senegal defender Papy Djilobodji left Feghouli through on goal, but a heavy touch allowed goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul to collect at his feet.

The Valencia player did not rue his miss for long as Mahrez exploited a yawning gap between the right wing-back and the centre-back to control Madjid Bougherra’s free-kick from deep and finish calmly.

Coundoul held an audacious 35-yard free-kick attempt from Faouzi Ghoulam and the keeper spared his ailing team-mates in the 21st minute when he pushed away a rasping strike from El Arbi Hillel Soudani.

Sadio Mane looked to haul Senegal back into the contest with a driving run, but the Southampton forward sliced wildly over having broken into the Algeria box.

Senegal were forced into a 29th-minute change, Pape Souare replacing Cheikh M’Bengue after the latter suffered a head injury in a challenge with Aissa Mandi, but Algeria had let their early intensity drop as Djilobodji flashed a free-kick wide.

Goalkeeper Rais M’Bolhi was out sharply to deny Mame Biram Diouf and, after Bentaleb required a last-ditch block to thwart Stephane Badji in stoppage time, Algeria were grateful for the half-time whistle.

Senegal introduced Papiss Cisse in place of midfielder Pape Diop for his first action of the tournament nine minutes into the second half and Carl Medjani was forced to clear behind as a dangerous Diouf cross searched out the Newcastle United striker.

Mane’s footing deserted him when Badji drilled a low ball into the box after 61 minutes, a deflection off the referee falling in Senegal’s favour as they opened up Algeria down the right flank.

For all the pressure applied by Giresse’s men, the best opening of the second period fell to Algeria – Kara Mbodj clearing off the line from Saphir Taider after Coundoul spilled Mahrez’s 75th-minute cross

Dame N’Doye, on for Mane, slashed a shot over before Bentaleb showed him how it was done and Ghana sealed Senegal’s fate.

AFCON 2015 Group C: South Africa 1 – 2 Ghana: Ayew fires Black Stars into knockout rounds

Andre Ayew scored a dramatic late winner to see Ghana into the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals as Group C winners in a 2-1 victory over South Africa.

Avram Grant’s men looked destined to crash out of the tournament after Mandla Masongo gave South Africa the lead in the 17th minute, but mounted a late fightback and remain in the hunt for the title.

John Boye restored parity 17 minutes from time to give Ghana hope, but they were still on course to be sent home as the clock ticked down.

However, Ayew latched onto the end of a Baba Rahman cross to put the ball into the back of the net in the 83rd minute, and see Ghana into the next round.

Grant’s side finish top thanks to their head-to-head record against Algeria, who beat Senegal 2-0. South Africa are eliminated as the group’s bottom side.

The South African backline was given a stern examination of its capabilities in the early stages.

After Jonathan Mensah had headed just wide from a free-kick in the fifth minute, Eric Mathoho had to block a Jordan Ayew strike on the line, with goalkeeper Nhlanhla Khuzwayo – one of four changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Senegal – having spilled the ball into his path from an earlier effort.

Ghana, who brought Wakaso Mubarak in for Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu in the middle of the park, were having the better of the early possession, but a moment of inspiration handed South Africa the lead out of the blue in the 17th minute.

Having lost his footing when initially attempting to control a long ball forward with his chest, Masango climbed to his feet before sending a sublime looping volley over the head of Brimah Razak when a failed headed clearance fell his way.

There was concern for South Africa when Khuzwayo went down with an apparent hamstring strain on the half-hour mark, but the goalkeeper got was in the right place at the right time to block a rifled Rahman effort from 20 yards soon after.

Mubarak could maybe count himself lucky to be on the pitch after a crunching challenge on Andile Jali deep inside his own half, and South Africa were not even placated with a free-kick as the referee pointed for a corner.

Asamoah Gyan sent a free-kick whistling over the crossbar from just outside the penalty area at the beginning of the second half, before Jordan Ayew saw a speculative long-range effort tipped wide.

John Boye tucked under Khuzwayo after the ball was drilled into the penalty area to give Ghana hope in the 73rd minute, before Kwesi Appiah saw an effort tipped onto the base of the post.

Ghana were throwing everything at finding a winner, and finally got their wish when Andre Ayew headed home seven minutes from time.

AFCON 2015 Group D: Cameroon 0 – 1 Cote d’Ivoire

A stunning Max Gradel strike fired Ivory Coast into the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals as Cameroon were beaten 1-0 in Malabo.

The attacker’s second goal of the tournament earned the Elephants top spot in Group D, setting up a last-eight clash with Algeria.

A cautious first half was brought to life after 36 minutes as the 27-year-old Saint-Etienne attacker thundered a long-range effort beyond the dive of Joseph Ondoa.

Cameroon’s attempts to get back into the game and avoid an early exit came to nothing, and Wilfried Bony should have extended Ivory Coast’s lead with a volley just after the hour.

Substitute Clinton N’Jie tried to replicate Gradel’s effort to level the match, but his shot was deflected wide by the resolute Ivorian defence.

Victory sees Herve Renard’s side qualify for the knockout stages, while Mali and Guinea will have to draw lots to see who joins them after their 1-1 draw in Mongomo.

With so much at stake the opening exchanges were understandably cagey, and it needed a controversial decision in the 12th minute to bring about the game’s first chance.

Referee Eric Otogo-Castane awarded Cameroon a free-kick after deeming Sylvain Gbohouo had carried the ball out of his penalty area when intercepting a pass. The Ivory Coast goalkeeper was booked, although replays suggested he had been harshly treated.

From the resulting set-piece, Franck Etoundi rose unmarked seven yards from goal, but his header was deflected over.

Cameroon goalkeeper Ondoa was finally called into action after 20 minutes, the 19-year-old Barca B player reacting quickly to keep out Serge Aurier’s header from a Gradel free-kick.

But with nine minutes of the half remaining, the young shot-stopper was picking the ball out of his net, asGradel set the game alight with a stunning strike.

Having collected a pass from Siaka Tiene, the Saint-Etienne forward broke free and thundered a 25-yard effort past Ondoa.

Cameroon should have gone in level at the break as Edgar Salli cleverly worked an opening for himself, but he blazed a shot over with only Gbohouo to beat.

A scrappy start to the second half saw neither goalkeeper tested until after the hour mark, when Bony had his first attempt on target.

Manchester City’s new signing used his strength to shrug off the attentions of Nicolas N’Koulou and Aurelien Chedjou on the edge of the penalty area, but his volley was punched away by Ondoa.

With time running out, plenty of Cameroon’s build-up play posed a threat, but as soon as they reached the penalty area they lacked the creativity to find a way through.

Substitute N’Jie created the only real chance on Gbohouo’s goal four minutes after coming on, but his audacious attempt from distance was deflected wide by Kolo Toure.

A final Cameroon chance fell to striker Vincent Aboubakar with 10 minutes to play as he met a right-wing cross, but the 23-year-old scuffed his shot and his side’s elimination was confirmed.

AFCON 2015 Group D: Guinea 1 – 1 Mali

$
0
0

Guinea and Mali must rely on the drawing of lots to see who will reach the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stages after playing out an entertaining 1-1 draw to finish in a tie for second in Group D.

All four previous pool matches before Wednesday’s fixtures produced 1-1 draws, meaning it was winner-takes-all in Mongomo.

However, the game ended all-square and, with Cote d’Ivoire having beaten Cameroon 1-0 in the other pool match, lots will have to be drawn to decide who joins Herve Renard’s men in the last eight.

It is the first time since 1988 that this method has been used to decide the fate of two tied teams, with Algeria having gone through at the expense of Ivory Coast on that occasion.

Guinea were primed to progress following Kevin Constant’s first-half penalty, with Seydou Keita missing one at the other end.

But Mali struck back shortly after half-time as Modibo Maiga levelled matters with a close-range header.

Henryk Kasperczak’s side enjoyed the better of the play after the equaliser, but were unable to find a crucial goal.

Mali started well as Abdoulay Diaby fired one shot over the bar and saw another blocked inside the opening 10 minutes, while Mustapha Yatabare felt he should have had a penalty after being pushed to ground by Fode Camara when chasing a long ball.

Guinea were controversially awarded a spot-kick in the 13th minute when referee Mohamed Said Kordi ruled that Ibrahima Traore’s shot was handled by Salif Coulibaly.

Constant demonstrated supreme confidence to dink the subsequent penalty straight down the middle and hand his side the lead.

The drama continued as, from the next attack, Baissama Sankoh blocked Maiga’s shot with his hands and Mali had the opportunity to level from the spot.

However, captain Keita fluffed his lines with a weak penalty that Naby-Moussa Yattara saved low to his right.

As both teams struggled to defend on an uneven surface the end-to-end nature of the contest continued, and Maiga produced a fine fingertip save from Yattara with a fizzing 30-yard drive in the 34th minute.

Mali deservedly levelled two minutes after the break as Diaby hung up a perfect cross to the back post from the right and Maiga was on hand to power his header into the unguarded goal.

The leveller gave Mali added impetus and Yattara showed good reactions to push Mamoutou N’Diaye’s low drilled effort for a corner, with Yatabare scooping over the crossbar from the set-piece.

Michel Dussuyer’s side produced little going forward and they were once more let off the hook when the unmarked Molla Wague flicked a header wide in the 76th minute.

As the clock wound down, Mali saw tentative penalty claims for handball waved away after a bout of pinball in the area.

The decisive goal never came, though, meaning the fate of both teams is now out of their hands.

Celebrity Column: Peace Hyde – “It is always darkest before dawn”

$
0
0

Hello and welcome to a Piece of peace. Your weekly dose of motivation and inspiration. Today I would like to share on the topic “It is always darkest before dawn”.

I am sure you have heard that expression several times. I recently went through a very difficult experience that made this statement, truer than I had ever imagined before. The thing about your life is, it is in constant motion. It never stands still. You are either going through a positive life experience or a negative one and at any point in time, the decisions you make determine how successful you are going to be. The truth is, Every great work, every big accomplishment has been brought into manifestation through holding to the vision whatever that may be and often, just before that big achievement, comes apparent failure and discouragement.

It’s during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light. All great changes are preceded by chaos. Now, one might ask, why is this always the case and I certainly have questioned this logic a time or two in my life. If God is working on our behalf, surely it doesn’t make any sense going through difficulty, pain and suffering before success? It stands to reason that, God in His all-powerful state can simply remove all the bitterness of life’s journey and get us to the point where there is just joy and happiness. Think about it, the notion of Sin for example is more prominent in difficult times than in times of success and joy. So why do we go through dark times? Let me try to explain.

If you live in the dark a long time and the sun comes out, you don’t cross into it whistling. There’s an initial uprush of relief at first, then a profound dislocation. Your old assumptions about how the world works are buried, yet your new ones aren’t yet operational. There’s been a death of sorts, but without a few days in hell, no resurrection is possible. The darkness symbolises the end of one part of you and the birth of another. You have to unlearn the old things that have gotten you this far to prepare yourself for your new level of success. Difficult times are there to make sure whatever attitude that is not needed for the next part of your journey is cast away and only those attributes that facilitate your growth and success are left behind.

Think about it as a filtration system. All the impurities are separated to one side and only the best ingredients make it. Never let the dark times in your life tempt you to lose hope. Don’t throw in the towel when it seems the worst. Its part of the journey to success. Sometimes it looks like everything is falling apart and all you do fails, but you have to stay strong. Your past mistakes are meant to guide you not define you. Fear kills more dreams than failure ever will.

You’ve failed many times, although you don’t remember. You fell down the first time you tried to walk. You almost drowned the first time you tried to swim…don’t worry about failure. My suggestion to each of you: worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try. Never give up and always keep pushing and always remember, be yourself, because everyone else is taken.

Much Love,

Peace Hyde.
