Kwaw Kese must seek education and stop talking out of ignorance – Music Producer

$

One of Ghana’s music producers, Enoch Agyepong has described thoughts expressed by Kwaw Kese that, Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) should be dissolved as “loose” and “out of ignorance”.

Rapper Kwaw Kese in an interview with Peace FM said that, GHAMRO must be dissolved since it is not doing what it was set up to do.

According to him since GHAMRO as an organization was tasked to collect royalties on behalf of the country’s musicians, he has not received any royalties.

In an interview with GhanaGist.Com, Enock Agyepong said his assertions which he is putting out is without facts and ask that Kwaw Kese better seek education on what GHAMRO is, its activities and what it does in royalty payments.

He said Kwaw Kese’s talk is completely out of ignorance as he has no grips as to what the CMO is and what GHAMRO is which is entirely up to him as a music Right Owner and not as a musician.

Enock further said if Kwaw’s reason is that because he was at GHAMRO’s office sometime back and had a hard hassle with the previous board, it does not warrant his talk that GHAMRO is not worth what it was set up to do. He further said that it was in the same vein that some right owners took the matter to court for redress.

Enoch continued that “if Kwaw Kese doesn’t understand the issues, it is better to be updated with the fact instead of making statements that show his ignorance of the business of music which he want to make money from because that is his future.”

“Today Kwaw is strong, making hits and for that matter money but what happens thereafter, which is what he has to think and care about.”

Providing tutorial on the work of GHAMRO, Mr. Agyepong explained that there is always a difference between the musician and the right owner and therefore Kwaw Kese is opportune as a right owner to make a difference by involving himself in GHAMRO activities which is the organization that collects his money for him. Kwaw Kesse future is the future of GHAMRO considering that those persons who did not help him are no more and things are being corrected”

On the issue of payment to right owners, Enock said “GHAMRO is supposed to pay right owners whose music are used royalties during their lifetime and 70 years after their death. This is an asset to both his family and dependents after ones death, although he accepts the situation seems difficult presently. It is for this reason why some of us are sacrificing our time for free to make sure the right things are done so that all rights owner will benefit including Kwaw Kese.”

He advised Kwaw to take part of his time off to learn the rudiments of what the industry is about so that his recording, performances and use will be of benefit to him but not to throw away the water with the baby.

AFCON 2015 Quarter-final: Ghana 3 – 0 Guinea: Ghana advances to African Cup of Nations semifinals

$

Christian Atsu scored a goal-of-the-tournament contender as his double helped Ghana stroll past Guinea 3-0 to reach the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

The winger let fly with an unstoppable left-foot effort just after the hour in Sunday’s quarter-final tie in Malabo to put the icing on the cake for Avram Grant’s men, who had already seized control of the contest.

Guinea’s spot in the last eight was confirmed via the drawing of lots at the expense of Mali, but their luck ran out as early as the fourth minute when Atsu scored his first from Andre Ayew’s superb assist.

Ghana were two goals to the good on the stroke of half-time as Kwesi Appiah showed his predatory instincts to capitalise on a horrendous error from Guinea’s Baissama Sankoh for his first international goal.

The second half produced little in terms of goalmouth action aside from Atsu’s moment of brilliance and Guinea’s misery was compounded in injury time when Naby-Moussa Yattara was sent off for rash challenge on Asamoah Gyan – the goalkeeper having earlier been lucky to escape a red card.

Ghana, who won the last of their four Africa Cup of Nations titles in 1982, can now look forward to a fifth straight semi-final, where hosts Equatorial Guinea await.

Atsu’s starring role in the quarter-final tie started in just the fourth minute.

Ayew collected Appiah’s pass from the left in the penalty area and the Olympique de Marseille man showed good strength before his exquisite backheel picked out the run of Atsu, who coolly converted from close range.

With his side struggling for a foothold, Yattara was lucky not to see red as he inexplicably shoved Atsu to the ground.

Aside from the goal, Ghana struggled for clear-cut chances, although Gyan should have done better with a tame shot from the edge of the area.

Guinea proved the architect of their own downfall a minute before the break, though, as Sankoh’s bizarre miscued clearance under no pressure fell into the path of Appiah and the Crystal Palace striker clinically side-footed home.

The tempo dropped in the second half with Ghana happy to play possession football, while Guinea appeared shorn of confidence after the first half’s late sucker-punch.

Ibrahima Traore wasted a promising set-piece on the hour when he went for goal from a difficult angle with several Guinea players waiting in the area.

Their wastefulness was punished in stunning style just a minute later.

Atsu picked up a short throw-in from the right before cutting inside and unleashing an unstoppable drive over Yattara and into the far corner from an unlikely angle.

Guinea goalkeeper Yatarra’s tempestuous game was ended early in stoppage time as he was shown a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Gyan when one-on-one.

The star striker was left limping by the tackle, potentially giving Grant a headache as Ghana edge ever closer to ending their 33-year wait for glory at the continental showpiece.

AFCON 2015: Quarter Final: Ivory Coast 3 – 1 Algeria: Bony sends Ivory Coast into semis

$
0
0

Wilfried Bony was Cote d’Ivoire’s hero as he scored twice to send his nation into the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations following a 3-1 win over Algeria.

The Manchester City man scored either side of El Arabi Hillel Soudani’s equaliser and Gervinho added a late third to send the 1992 African champions into the final four, where they will meet DR Congo.

Bony gave the Ivory Coast the lead midway through the first half with a well-taken header – the striker’s second goal against Algeria in as many games – but Renard’s men started the second half slowly and were made to pay when Soudani levelled in the 51st minute.

However, Bony again demonstrated his quality by powering a header past Rais M’Bolhi with 23 minutes remaining to knock the wind out of Algeria’s sails.

And Gervinho steered home a third from 15 yards after Algeria had thrown men forward in search of an equaliser.

It was a deserved victory for the Ivory Coast over another of the pre-tournament favourites and Renard’s side remain on course for a third final appearance in six editions of the tournament.

Yacine Brahimi and Soudani went close early on for Algeria, while Gervinho – returning after a suspension – failed to find a team-mate at the other end from a promising position down the right.

The Ivory Coast then began to apply pressure, Serge Aurier heading against the post before Bony opened the scoring shortly before the half-hour mark.

The former Swansea City man opened his account for this year’s competition as he got on the end of Max Gradel’s delivery to nod home.

With Islam Slimani on the bench due to a knee injury, Christian Gourcuff’s men struggled to gain a foothold in the game before the break.

However, Soudani restored parity early in the second half as he made the most of sloppy Ivorian defending – heading on Sofiane Feghouli’s long ball to Riyad Mahrez before finishing the move following a cross from the Leicester City man.

Brahimi – who shook off a back problem to feature – was denied by Sylvain Gbohouo at close range before Bony restored the Ivory Coast’s lead with another fine finish.

Bony outmuscled Carl Medjani to meet club team-mate Yaya Toure’s free-kick from the right with a powerful header that M’Bolhi was unable to keep out.

Algeria pressed in an attempt to level – with Gourcuff throwing on Slimani in an attempt to keep their hopes alive.

Slimani twice went close on, but Gervinho scored in the final minute of stoppage time as the Ivory Coast saw out an impressive win that suggested they may finally live up to expectations and win the competition.

Ghanaian music duo Tripple 2 makes the headlines in Europe

$

From the inception of contemporary music forms influenced by hip culture, it is rare to see artistes of African origin make an impact and receive the needed attention from within the Scandinavian region. If for anything at all, they are only seen at little gigs within the sparsely populated African communities.

This is the jinx music group of Ghanaian descent, Tripple 2, vowed to break when the Afro Hip Hop group was formed as a professional music recording group five years ago in the Finnish capital of Vantaa.

Tripple 2 comprises of Ghanaian twin brothers, Atsu Akrong, with the stage name Akrong and Etse Akrong, whose stage name is CJ. The group has the talented Veikko Kerman as its official DJ. The group which started with gospel music derived its name from the Christian principle of the Trinity – God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Without a doubt, Tripple 2 is emerging as Europe’s biggest music group of African descent having toured with internationally acclaimed music superstars including Mario, Flo Rida and Lil John across the Scandinavian region, performing back to back their hit tracks – Shawty Gotta Move It, Funky Flame and Alright.

Last year, 2014, the group achieved another milestone in their five years musical journey as recording musicians when their hit single, Funky Flame, was featured in the box office record breaking Finnish movie titled, Korso.

Tripple 2 is currently enjoying heavy rotation on radio and television in Finland, Holland and Estonia and was recently featured in the prestigious and highly respected African music blog- www.africanhiphop.com as the first group from Scandinavia to be featured by the website.

As a result of their hard work combined with their creativity and brand marketability, Tripple 2 secured a major record deal with the Finland based AFAES Music (Africans and African-European Music Group), a label which focuses on developing African artists based in the Scandinavian region. Finland, Helsinki. AFAES Music is a division of AFAES Association.

About their motivation, Akrong indicated that “we have been inspired to become the first African group from Finland to be successful and break into mainstream music on the global platform to put ourselves and country on the global map so far as music is concerned”

On his part, CJ attributed their motivation to the great team they are working with. “we cannot afford to disappoint our team especially, Aleksi Nurmi, who works the magic behind the sounds and production and our manager Richmond Ghansah”, he added.

In the next five years, Tripple 2 is aspiring to be performing at the biggest platforms internationally and also be recognized by winning top notch awards schemes across the world.

Tripple 2 is a group which has come to stay and in the words of their manager, Richmond Ghansah, “we want the fans to know we are here to stay and the vision is to take the group onto the global music platform”.

BoxOffice Brings Hot RENTertainment and a competition this February

February is the month of love and BoxOffice is here to sweep subscribers off their feet with exciting blockbuster films. Get a DStv Explora decoder to immerse yourself and your loved one in the world of side-splitting comedies, thrilling suspense dramas, adrenalin-pumping action flicks and chilling horror movies. DStv Premium subscribers will have the opportunity to select from the wide range of entertaining movies to ensure that they’re constantly updated when it comes to the latest and best films in the world right in the comfort of their own homes.

On February 2 kick-off your at-home film fest on with the bone-chilling horror flick, Annabelle. In this spooky tale starring Alfre Woodard, Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton, a man named John Form has found the perfect gift for his expectant wife, Mia — a beautiful, rare vintage doll in a pure white wedding dress. But Mia’s delight with Annabelle doesn’t last long. On one horrific night, their home is invaded by members of a satanic cult, who violently attack the couple. Spilled blood and terror are not all they leave behind. The cultists have conjured an entity so malevolent that nothing they did will compare to the sinister conduit to the damned that is now…Annabelle. Keep your comfort-blanket close by because this horror film based on a true story.

Also catch another fallen star, Phillip Seymor Hoffmann is his last leading role in a feature film before his death last year in A Most Wanted Man from the 3rd of February.  When an immigrant turns up in Hamburg’s Islamic community, laying claim to his father’s ill-gotten fortune, both German and US security agencies take a close interest: as the clock ticks down and the stakes rise, the race is on to establish this most wanted man’s true identity – oppressed victim or destruction-bent extremist?

After Anabelle, a comedy palate cleanser will come in handy. Enter…The Longest Week to the rescue. Let Jason Bateman amuse you in his role as Conrad, an immature man-child who has spent his life in a chic Manhattan Hotel ever since his parents decided to take a 20-year vacation to Paris, leaving him to be raised by hotel staff at the age of 11. His spoiled life comes to an end when he loses his trust fund as a result of his parents’ divorce and is forced out on the street. The film also stars Olivia Wilde and Billy Crudup and will be available from the 4th of February.

But truth be told, 2014’s most disturbing blood and gore scene award goes to psychological thriller, Gone Girl (also available from 9th of February) starring Ben Afleck and Rosamund Pike whose role recently garnered her a Screen Actors Guild Award, Golden Globe and Oscar nominations in the Best Actress category. Based on a best-selling Gillian Flynn novel by the same name, this story revolves around Nick Dunne who reports that his beautiful wife, Amy, has gone missing on the day of their fifth wedding anniversary. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble, leaving him as a prime suspect. Not one to be missed.

If you feel you’ve gained back your equilibrium enough to watch another film based on a historical figure, then catch Dracula Untold from 09 February. The story chronicles a young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them and in the process begins his tragic transformation into the eternally infamous vampire. Expect epic fight scenes and lots of blood and gore.

As if having access to all these hot blockbusters wasn’t exciting enough, BoxOffice will also be running a monthly competition from 1 February to 30 April 2015 where subscribers will stand a chance to win 1 of 5 Smart TVs every month.  To qualify for entry, eligible customers will have to rent 3 or more movies and be automatically entered into a lucky draw. Remember, the more you rent, the better your chances.

We don’t need to sell ECG | Selling Electricity Company of Ghana is not the solution – Socrate Safo

$

Do you support the idea of selling Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to a private company? Will that actually solve the power problems in the country?

According to filmmaker, Socrate Safo, it would be out of place for anyone to call for the sale of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to a private company to operate.

The ‘Hot Fork’ movie-maker in an interview with Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ Mid-Morning Show, Brunch2Lunch said, in spite of the energy crisis that has plagued the country in recent times, selling the country’s provider of quality, reliable and safe electricity services is not the solution.

“It’s not about selling it. We don’t need to sell ECG. We need to sack the leaders there and call for applicants who have ideas as to how to manage it. Then we interview them live on television to know their proposals for dealing with the issue so we employ the best and hold him accountable should the fellow fail”.

Music producer and the brain behind The Last 2 Music Group, Edward Nana Poku Osei popularly known as Hammer, in a Facebook post had blamed the erratic power supply in the country on the human resource mindset thereby calling for the sale of ECG.

However, Socrate objected saying, “They always increase the rate in the name of improving the services; yet, the situation keeps worsening. So can’t Hammer who proposed the sale of ECG think of the fact that we have always been lied to? One day, we would sell Ghana because we can’t have good leaders”.
