Bola Ray’s EMPIRE 102.7fm to bring a refreshing radio experience to Takoradi
In spite of the saturation of radio stations in Ghana, Bola Ray (real name Kwabena Anokye Adisi) the brain behind Empire 102.7fm stationed in Takoradi is more than confident that the new station will soon rule the airwaves.
After more than a decade in Radio, Bola Ray has all it takes to make those important decisions which will take radio listeners on a daily refreshing journey—and he has decided to do so with the birth of Empire 102.7fm.
In a strategic move to ensure that those who tune into Empire receive the best and have a wonderful listening experience, Bola Ray has sealed a deal with Joy 99.7 fm to transmit to Empire’s listeners, some of the award winning programmes on the Super station.
Not only has Empire 102.7 hit the airwaves with new and refreshing programmes, putting itself on a different pedestal from the on-going repetition and programme’s similarities, it has also joined hands with Multimedia group—to bring the best to its listeners.
According to the Business Manager at Empire FM-Frank Odoom, the Empire-Joy partnership will “give Empire the opportunity to enrich its air content and also give Joy FM an opportunity to extend their brand,”
In its bid to set the bar high, Empire FM will not be cluttered with the turbulence of Ghana’s day-to-day politics as it appears to be the trend in the industry—Empire will take centre stage with thought-provoking Entertainment and lifestyle programmes.
“We are an entertainment and lifestyle station. It is for a market group who are not so much leaning towards politics or current affairs but who are rather leaning towards an entertainment and lifestyle led content. We are also looking at doing more music and less of talking,” Frank Odoom said.
Apart from the unique and well packaged contents Empire Fm has already started feeding its listeners with, several top presenters who understand the radio business have been employed to run affairs at the station.
If a top presenter like Bola Ray pushes through a radio station, then you are definitely guaranteed the best. Therefore, anytime you are in the Western region, don’t forget to flip the dial to 102.7-Empire Fm.
Lawyer Sandra Ankobiah chosen as Coordinator for Legal Advocacy Foundation
Lawyer and Television Presenter, Sandra Ankobiah, has been chosen by the Legal Advocacy Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in Accra, as Coordinator.
The formal announcement was made during an event by the Private Investors Protection Agency (PIPA) to honour the Foundation’s President and Founder, Dr. Maurice Ampaw in Accra on Wednesday.
As Coordinator, she will lead and head the Foundation’s programs and also liaise with institutions for support.
“We Saw in Sandra a female personality who is passionate and committed to whatever she does. She has shown that she believes in the course of the poor and the needy; a woman of high moral character and integrity,” Dr. Ampaw said.
“She is highly objective in her analysis and presentation on issues bordering the poor and needy in society. With her appointment, LAF will go far in achieving its mission and objectives.”
Founded in 2010, the Legal Advocacy Foundation is strategically positioned with the sole aim of bringing justice to the doorstep of the vulnerable in society.
The Foundation also aims at educating the ordinary Ghanaian about their legal rights and obligations.
Among other things, they also seek to engage in public seminars, legal outreach programs, legal clinics, and providing a platform for legal research of legal issues that has public interest.
The Foundation also serves as a pressure group to put the necessary legal pressure on state institutions so that they will be responsible and accountable to the people on whose behalf they exercise state power and authority.
Former First Lady, Dr. Mrs Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings was Guest Speaker at the event.
DJs & Presenters make artistes big
It has been confirmed that the management of Yfm has written a letter of caution to Sammy Forson, an employee of the radio station, for his consistent promotion of one particular artist, in the person of Sarkodie.
On the part of Blakk Rasta, he has always argued that he plays his own music, but also gives the opportunity to other musicians in the industry, by promoting their songs.
It can be said that industry players and critics of the music industry, whiles awaiting the nomination list of this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), have reminded DJs and Presenters that they would not be allowed to impose songs which do not merit to be awarded on the public, just for the fact that they have had a popular air play from some radio stations.
It has become a canker, menace and evil on a few of the radio stations, while presenters and DJs manipulate or impose their own artiste’s songs on the listening pleasure of Ghanaians.
In spite of the consistent campaign of kicking out the practice of corruption in the music industry, “Payola” has contributed to the current rend, whiles DJs and presenters are being employed by musicians as producers to push their products on their platform, preventing the listening public from having the best of musical content for the consumption of Ghanaians.

Tributes to Komla Dumor from Ghanaian Media/Showbiz fraternity in USA
Various Members of the Ghanaian Media/Showbiz Fraternity in the United States and Canada have come together to offer their various tributes to their departed comrade;
“Ei!!! Owuo tirimu 3y3 den saa, Owuo mp3 ade pa koraa.” Is that how death lays its cold hands on great young men and women? It was really shocking to hear Komla is gone. I quickly checked “facebook” and found the words “RIP Komla, but found no response from him true or false on his wall.
It was then that I realized I was not dreaming but confronted with reality. My day was shattered as I realized that such a young man with so much life in him and passion for journalism had departed suddenly.
Komla broke barriers and did not allow his African accent to be a stumbling block and proved to the world courtesy of BBC that excellence in front of the camera has nothing to do with where you come from.
He was about to make history (The face of BBC FIFA, BRAZIL 2014 but death has its way. Komla had always offered me compliments on the job and was humble to share his images on assignments with facebook friends.
He really put Ghana on the map and was proud of his roots. Today, Volta, Togbe, nyebro is gone! The shock reminds me of my other departed great comrades, the late Divine Gakpey and Kwame Owusu Ansah.
Africa has lost another icon of hope, inspiration and vision for future journalists and media practitioners. Our Prayers and Condolence to the bereaved family and as part of the media fraternity, we are all in this together.

“A Poem for A true Hero
You corrected our wrongs, You told our truths, You projected our vision, You were here before existing and your absence is still present, We hear echoes of your vibrant voice that we would wake up to hear through loud speaking TV screens as you tell this beautiful story about Africa., You paved the way for Legends who wandered in wildernesses, You unify complex minds objectively. I waited earnestly to see you as a face of Africa in Brazil but I realized you are a face of the World. We gained a legacy simply Indelible”.
KOMLA LIVES ON!
SPECIAL MESSAGE TO THE DUMOR/GBEHO FAMILIES, KWANSEMA AND THE 3 GIFTS YOU LEFT IN WORLD.
Klenam Anatsui aka Heavy D, Formerly of Joy FM, New York, USA
He is one of the finest radiology people I have come to see in our time. A person with a great voice and personality who loves what he does. I personally met him @ Joy Old school reunion in 2002 and he said to me; you are who you want to be now and I was like what was he saying? But until I became well known in the Ghana then I really understood what he was telling me. We have lost a great son, a brother; a father in the media world may the lord God keep him till we meet again, RIP. David Ekow Quansah aka Papa Sly, YFM/Afro1 TV. Columbus, Ohio
“What can I say in such a difficult time? I don’t think words can simply describe the pain and vacuum felt as a result of the boss player’s death. It has shaken all of us to the core and given us another reminder of how fragile life is. I can only thank God for giving the boss player to us and also thank the boss player for teaching us what it truly means to serve Your Maker, Your family, Your country and the world with such passion and dedication with the great talents God has blessed us with. Komla, my JOYFM comrade, sleep well. You will be missed – “ebi you alone dey know your tins”. Tribute by Akosua Larbi-Osei, Minneapolis, Minnesota – Former Newsreader/reporter JOYFM Newsroom
The depth, sincere, genuine and listless tributes paid to you after your passing is testament to the legendary status you occupied in the media landscape and most importantly in the hearts of people who admired you. It was a joy to listen to you and your intelligence was profound. In the face of death, we are powerless, but it’s my prayer, that the good Lord keeps you. Rest in peace Agbedefu…Kweku Mensah Acquah (Former Host of Choice FM’s breakfast Show), Philly
A shining Star of Africa has extinguished. Komla was an inspiration to all of us. We wish his family well. May he rest in Peace. George Bright-Abu, Editor/Publisher, Afrikan Post, VA,
I’m totally blacked out because I still am in shock. I still can’t eat well neither can I sleep well. Why should I bury my dad on November 30th, my uncle a week after and just when I thought I was getting myself and senses back in order, I lose a trusted friend. Why should KOMLA die now? I really wanna be an Ostrich now. I don’t wanna know it’s real but honestly it is! Unlike my father’s demise, Komla’s death has had a much bigger impact on me and a wake up call for me not to miss my Doc’s appointments. It also has given me a call to action: I have to rest when needed and appreciate life. Plus I have do my best wherever life pushes me to. I met KOMLA in person for the 1st time at Fox trap in Kumasi somewhere in the year 2000. I was a young enthusiastic Journalist with Fox fm at the time. We exchanged pleasantries and went our separate ways having fun at the club. The last time I met the Boss Player in person again was at Busy Internet in Accra where I personally congratulated him for winning the prestigious GJA journalist of the year award (which I’ll propose to the Journalists Association to name after him in his honor for projecting Ghana to the rest of the world). I can’t wait to hear MCs announce on yearly basis : and now… The KOMLA DUMOR EXCELLENCE AWARD GOES TO… He was such a cool gentleman who took his job seriously and loved what he did with a passion. KOMLA defined morning shows in our part of the world when the state broadcaster GBC was boring us with unnecessary programs in the AM. Most of us looked up to his interview skills, professionalism, witty sayings and his humorous ways at attacking sensitive issues sometimes. He rose from grace to grace and became that shining star from Ghana. Four days before his sudden death, I showed his numerous pictures online to a colleague at work. The dude had asked me my source of inspiration and mentor. So, when the news broke of Komla’s death we both were dumb-founded and shocked. I can’s write anymore. My eyes are hurting with tears. I pray for God’s protection for the Children he left behind. May Kwansima, his beautiful wife, find consolation in The Lord. May his ailing father, Prof. Dumor gather enough strength through Komla’s legacy to live longer. May his sister Mawena And Brother Korshie stay strong in The Lord. To u Dzifa Gbeho Bampoh, and the entire extended family may u find happiness in The Lord again. May we all trust in God and thank Him for calling our brother and friend to be with Him at this particular moment. Damirifa due! due ne amanehunu!! KOMLA Nante yie! May u rest peacefully with your maker. Robert, the Flipman. (Formerly of Fox fm, Spirit fm, Uniiq fm and New York’s Volta Power fm)
“Komla Dumor I was hoping it was all a dream. But I’m trying to make sense of your untimely demise. And I was just casting my mind back to yesterday when I saw your show on BBC nothing showed you were sick, you looked happy and didn’t know that was your last show. I try to ask myself a lot of questions if you could just die then this world in which we live is really a transit point. The “boss player” you are gone physically, but your legacy will still live on. God needs you more than we do hence he coming for you. God says in all things we should give him thanks. We thank him for giving you 41 years on the earth. For those of us who knew you personally we say we have really lost a gem I can still remember the day you called me at the station; Groove Fm 106.3 when you asked me to play that Will Smith song; Getting Jiggy with it again after I had just finished playing it but anything for the “Boss Player”. Rest in perfect peace till we meet again”. - Albert Owu, NJ, USA
Komal Dumor has left a mark in a media and Journalism arena and a better understanding globe stories. He was a symbol of hope for those who want to change in people’s life through Africa Journalism. Africa and the world has lost a great star. Boss Player may your soul rest in perfect peace. - Charles Amponsah (Governor), New Vision Radio 103.5 FM, Worc., MA, USA
Africa is on the rise on all fronts. A vivid manifestation of our progress was our dear colleague, the indefatigable, amiable and durable Komla Dumor. He is the mirror, indeed the poster boy of the new Africa emerging on the global horizon. From his small corner, Dumor, raised a veritable platform via, BBC, to articulate the rise of Africa. He set new standards of journalism worthy of emulation by the media worldwide. He was very respectable and humble despite his huge stature in the media world. The last time I saw him face to face was at the Harvard University Library years ago and I remember his very words “hey boss what you are doing here?” Thanks to social media we remained in touch and he is one person who will encourage you to return to the Ghana media. I was frozen to the bones when I heard the news that the Dumor no more. I initially thought it was a prank. But it was It was no rumor, Dumor had indeed, joined the ancestors. A huge African media platform caves in. - Samuel Kissiedu, Africa Sports Journal, Orlando,Florida.
Komla’s sudden death is beyond heartbreaking! Ghana has lost a native son, Africa has lost a rising star of its future and the world has lost a beautiful human being… You have inspired so many young and old alike telling our stories, while shining bright in your own Black Star light-making us laugh & think and leaving us filled with pride that you are one of us! Your beautiful gap tooth smile will never be forgotten. All I can ask is why and hope that we can carry on the legacy of telling beautiful and honest African stories in a way that will make The Boss Player proud in forever reminding his beautiful children that their father is amongst the greats! The world cup which you were so looking forward to will not be the same without you and I hope Africa and the Black Star Nation honors you on the world stage. The world believed in Africa because you did and taught us all how and why! May your soul rest in eternal peace Black Star… Continue to Shine…. Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in our thoughts and prayers. - Elove & Partners, NY, USA
Sometimes in life we have the privilege to meet special people whose talents and life are an embodiment of how great God is. Komla Dumor was one such talents who followed the path that God chose for him, using his voice to touch lives .Though his time with us was short, he has taught us that we should use our talents for the greater good and let our light shine for the world to see. He was a bolting light, a talent that believed all things are possible. He has also taught me, if you believe, all dreams and all heights are achievable if only you take a step of faith and do what you were born to do. We have lost a great voice, a great talent and great friend of the media. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and to all loved ones. May we never forget him. RIP dear friend.
Jennifer Osei Nartey Broadcast Journalist formerly of GBC TV/Radio, Legend Talk Radio (USA) and QTV(USA)
Komla Dumor, A father , A son and A friend has left an empty whole in the lives of not only those close to him but also in the lives of the media . We were all happy of his success and his gradual rise to the top and to be counted amongst the best putting the name of Ghana on the map . It amazes me how from his accidental stroll into journalism turned out to be his best calling. I met him on several occasions because I worked at Mobitel and my words to him were ”nye bro” my brother in the Ewe dialect. Nye bro dapeme nuene’ Rest in peace , my brother .We pray for your family and we hope they grow to know you were a good man.

“When we heard this devastated horrible news, we at Legend Media Network became still for a while and wondered…how can a great gift to Ghana and mother Africa be gone so soon. It is very unfortunately that my friend of the ink fraternity is gone too early. Death is truly wicked. May His soul rest in perfect peace. - Prince Osei Bonsu – Editor-Chief/Publisher of GOD’S TIME MAGAZINE, VA,
I never got the chance to meet Komla in person but he was one of my biggest inspiration as far as journalism and media is concern. I admire his work and dedication to keeping Africa on the map in a positive way. Unlike many others in the news business, Komla told our story without any bias and was very proud to show his roots and culture while working for BBC. He was a son of Ghana and his legacy will be carried on”. Gabe – CEO of Ghanalinx Media Group
THE LOSS OF A PERFECTIONIST
It is heartbreaking to face reality, especially when this reality is a painful one. Today, we are unfortunately confronted with such a situation. Komla Dumor, the astute broadcaster and journalist, whose strive for professional excellence made him the toast of Ghana, Africa and the rest of the world, has departed this life. Komla, in a time like this, we are comforted by the fact that you are resting in the bosom of your maker. Yet, our grief knows no bounds because you left us not only at a tender age, but a time when the world had just began to see the depth of your exploits. The outpouring of tributes from all and sundry indicates how grateful the world is for the incredible life you led. Your family, friends and loved ones are all reeling from the grief of your loss; and only the impeccable legacy you left has afforded us the strength to carry on. It is fervently hoped that Ghanaians, Africans, and people the world over will not only eulogize your life, but more importantly let the light of your life shine through their actions. Fare thee well, The Boss Player! You will be sorely missed! - Prince K. Bediako Frimpong & Israel Ameshie, Dolshradio.com, ATL, GA
My first encounter with Kumla Dumor was on the Super Morning Show with my then boss of NCCE Greater Accra regional director Mrs Doris Archampong. We were on the super morning show for a brief moment to discuss the constitution week celebration. The interview was quick, insightful and interesting. That was the first and only time I met him but I followed his exploits both at home and on the BBC. I got into Journalism simply because of the influence of Komla Dumor especially the way he excelled at it. He was the reference point for excellence in journalism for my generation. Thank you Komla for your silent encouragement to some of us. You were indeed a gem and as David in the Bible, I would say you served your generation well just as King David did! My condolence to Kwansema and the children. Rest in peace! - Dennis Darko Mantey, Formally of TV Africa and Etvghana - Austell, GA.

Ghanaian Government puts its weight behind Student Outreach in Accra
A week away from final judging of the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards, the student competition which now draws over a 1000 entries across the continent and encourages students to either write an essay or design a poster about the benefits of satellite technology in the continent, the Ghanaian government has put its weight behind the third edition of this unique event after it confirmed Minister of Education, Honourable Naan Opoku-Agyeman as guest speaker at the prestigious Gala Dinner to be held at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra on the 5th February.
Industry players will gather for the announcement of the essay winner who will walk away with a once-in-a lifetime prize to see a rocket launch take off into space and a trip for the poster category winner to Eutelsat’s headquarters in Paris. In the spotlight for the final prize are finalists from 13 countries in Africa, namely Shiela Gerardo (Angola); Ulathi Mkwebu (Botswana); Maame Akua Kome (Ghana); Lavine Oluoch (Kenya); Michael Kauatjitotje (Namibia); Taiwo Kayode (Nigeria); Kanzira Aine (Senegal); Eshlin Vedan (South Africa); Wakhile Shongwe (Swaziland); Fransisco Kibasa (Tanzania); Victor Okoth (Uganda); Francine Mazala (Zambia) and Thabani Sibanda (Zimbabwe).
When the organisers, MultiChoice Africa and Eutelsat set their sights on Accra for the Awards they collaborated to create meaningful engagement with students, the academic community and the scientific world in order to leave a lasting legacy in the hearts and minds of the young people of Ghana and to instill a passion for science in the younger generation. Students in Accra are gearing up to attend a captivating lecture to be delivered by the Italian (European Space Agency) astronaut, Paolo Nespoli on Tuesday, the 4th February which will be held at the University of Ghana. Nespoli, who will also be presiding over the Awards as Jury Chairman assisted by a panel of skilled industry experts, will share his adventures in space with his first flight in 2007 and a second long-duration mission on board the International Space Station in 2010.
In his support for this initiative, CEO of MultiChoice Africa, Nico Meyer said: “As a business, we understand the incredible value of collaborative relationships with governments and the returns yielded by communities when public and private sectors come together. We are very pleased by the government’s overwhelming support for the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards initiative and we are honoured to also have the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Honourable Joseph Oteng-Adjei scheduled to address Ghanaian students at the outreach lecture. It sends a very clear message about the importance of science and technology in today’s digital landscape. Digital services made available by satellite are growing in importance as powerful engines to drive economic and social progress.”
Chairman and CEO of Eutelsat, Michel de Rosen commented on the far-reaching impact of the Awards over the last 3 years. “The number of entries received this year is a truly encouraging new milestone. Equally exciting is the turnout of young people in great numbers at the student outreaches held in local communities. It is an excellent indicator that Africa’s young minds are hungry to acquire knowledge and skills that will position them a cut above the rest. At Eutelsat, we are keenly aware that there can be no sustainable development in high technology environments without engineers, technicians and teachers to propel and stimulate young minds to the next stage.
We owe much of the emergence of this new generation of aspirant scientists who will change the world, to these Awards.”

I studied Law to help people and make a difference – Lawyer Sandra Ankobiah
TV presenter, model, actress and lawyer Sandra Ankobiah opened up to arts writer Francis Doku last Friday during the latter’s weekly interview of Ghanaian celebrities on social media site Twitter dubbed #FridayTwitterview.
The interview covered several areas including Ankobiah’s career, her aspirations for the year 2014 and her ideal man.
Francis: Hi Sandra how are you today and how is 2014 treating you?
Sandra: Hi!!! I’m fantastic! Happy New Year!! 2014…Hmm so far, so good.
Francis: Did you make any resolutions for the year?
Sandra: I did. I made two. The first is to be better with my time management (I’m almost always late!). The second was to pray that all my aspirations and goals are fulfilled.
Francis: hahaha…I can relate to that. Let’s dwell on the mood of the country for a moment. What do you have to say about Dumor?
Sandra: I’m deeply saddened that we have lost such a gem. I admired him for his eloquence. His diction was impeccable. May he RIP.
Francis: Tell me about how you found yourself in the media? Or did the media find you?
Sandra: I think it started off with the TV show, Fashion 101.
Francis: How did that start? What motivated Fashion 101?
Sandra: I was inspired by the E’s Fashion Police show and of course my passion for fashion.
Francis: Tell me about fashion. Do you think we are getting it right or we are nowhere close?
Sandra: I think we get better every day. We learn every day. As with anything else, it’s a learning process. Our fashion industry is a burgeoning one. Still in its nurturing stages. But we have come a long way in the last few years.
Francis: Have you abandoned Fashion 101 for New Day?
Sandra: New Day is not a replacement for Fashion 101. Indeed they are different brands and concepts with completely different demographics. But in all honesty, I’ve decided to move on to my first love which is the Law. I studied Law for a reason. And that is to help people and make a difference. People are languishing in our prisons because they do not have access to legal representation. Legal representation is a constitutional right of every Ghanaian. Some just can’t afford it, but it doesn’t mean they should be denied justice. Some things are just more important than others. So when I weighed Fashion 101 and offering legal aid, the scale just tipped in favour of offering legal aid.
Francis: To recap, you’ll continue to present New Day, you will go off Fashion 101 and you will go into legal practice more in 2014?
Sandra: Exactly. Joining an organisation to offer free legal services. Details soon.
Francis: Thank you. Tell me Sandra, are you in a relationship at the moment?
Sandra: No I’m not.
Francis: Why are you not? Not enough good men out there? The good ones are taken? Not interested or not ready?
Sandra: I LOVE love. I just haven’t found my Adam. If he’s out there, please let him know I’m looking for him .
Francis: How would he know? What are your benchmark qualities? Good looks and manners? Money and looks? Money?
Sandra: Someone I can talk to and laugh with all night long. He has to be ambitious, compassionate, and we must connect on a magical level. It’s unexplainable. It’s a feeling. Indescribable! He must be tall.
Francis: Good to know. Back to TV3, how does it feel hosting a morning show with the team? I feel it’s crowded.
Sandra: I love the show. I learn a lot from the various segments. The team is great and we work together well. The only time you see all four of us together is when we introduce the show and when we wrap up.
Francis: You want to clear the air on that friendship brouhaha the press has raised between you and Yvonne Nelson?
Sandra: Oooohhh Francis! Are we still on that? It’s 2014!
Francis: Are you friends? Were you friends? What’s the big deal either?
Sandra: We are cool. I’ve said it so many times, I’m beginning to sound like a broken record. There’s absolutely no story there. I’m glad you mentioned that it’s the press that raised all the brouhaha.
Francis: Cool. To conclude, what would be Sandra Ankobiah’s legacy in broadcasting, showbiz and law?
Sandra: That the world was a better place because I made an impact in the life of one person.
Francis: Thank you for your time and answers, Sandra.
Sandra: My pleasure. Enjoyed it. Many thanks.

CHAN 2014: Libya beat Ghana to snatch first African title
Libya claimed their first senior African title with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over Ghana in Cape Town.
The African Nations Championship final had finished 0-0 after 90 minutes before Joshua Tijani missed the crucial spot-kick to give Libya victory.
Ghana’s Abdul Mohamed had the best chance to win the match in extra-time but put his shot wide.
Both goalkeepers then saved two penalties each in the shoot-out before Tijani missed the target.
A run of six games in the space of 20 days, including extra-time in each of Wednesday’s semi finals, took its toll on both teams as they battled to create any clear cut scoring chances in the regular 90 minutes.
Both sides spurned good chances to break the deadlock in the second period of extra time. First Mohamed saw his shot roll tantalisingly past the right upright and a few minutes later Libya’s Abdelsalam Omar, unmarked in the six-yard box, had his header well saved from point blank range by Ghana goalkeeper Stephen Adams.
Given the history of past matches between these two countries, extra time came as no surprise.
Their previous two meetings in the group stages of this year’s competition and the 2009 event ended in 1-1 draws, while Ghana won the penalty shoot-out in the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations final after the teams finished level at 1-1 after extra time.
In the day’s third-placed play-off, Nigeria beat Zimbabwe 1-0 thanks to Christian Chinonso Obiozor’s late goal.

Queen Nwokoye reveals her secret for scandal free career
So many celebrities have to deal with one issue after another. But Queen has managed to stand tall without a blister of scandal. In the interview below, she explains how she has managed to lead a simple career life:
Why don’t you wear revealing clothes like some of your colleagues in the industry?
I am a very simple person and I hate exposing my body. No way.
How have you somehow managed to stay off scandals?
I think it has to do with my upbringing. I had extra-strict parents. My grandfathers were headmasters. My
parents are knights of the Catholic Church. I have a strong religious background. My life was almost triangular. I went from home to school and to church and back home. Even till my first year in school, I always woke up to go and mop the altar in the church for the morning Mass. I was the president of the block rosary crusade (Catholic prayer group) in my area. I have younger sisters and I need to show them good examples. They look up to me. I am the first and they look up to me. Now, as a grown person, there are things I cannot do.
You sound so religious; is there any plan of you retiring someday from acting for religious life?
No. I am not ready to become a reverend sister. I actually thought I was going to be a nun then, which was past. But I just knew I would not make a good reverend sister because I wanted a family of my own. I want to live the rest of my life with a man I will call my own. So I dropped the idea of being a nun and faced reality. And that is why I waved the idea aside.
Pete Edochie – I bought cars for all my six children
Parents have a huge responsibility of taking good care of their kids.
Education is of prime importance and veteran actor Pete Edochie has elaborated on how he motivated each of his six children to attain the highest level of education possible:
“I wanted to motivate them and keep them away from peer pressure. Parents must be able to motivate their children and set target for them. The minimum target for each of them was to graduate from higher institution; their reward upon graduation is a car. And where I come from, it is important to keep one’s word; I bought the car for each of them. Yul who is over 30 (pictured above) is the last born and he got his too.”
Pete Edochie also talked about the longetivity of his 45 years marriage to his wife:
“I married early and have remained married since then. What am I looking for a second wife for? I married a woman who gave me six children, what could I possibly be looking for in another woman that I didn’t get from this woman? There is no reason for it”
A great husband, dad, and actor. Bravo Pete Edochie!

Ghana Actors Guild to host Nigerian actors in March
The cordial relationship that exists between Ghana and Nigeria will be moved a notch higher next month when a delegation from the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) comes here to partner the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG) in a number of engagements to commemorate Ghana’s 57th independence anniversary.
The 35-member Nigerian delegation is expected to arrive in the country on March 2 and will spend a week absorbing some of Ghana’s interesting sights and sounds while participating in a number of activities lined up for the visit.
The president of the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG), Samuel Odoi Mensah who broke news of the visit to the Daily Graphic, said members of both guilds would engage in a two-day workshop on March 3 and 4.
In the morning of March 5, according to him, there would be a float of students from second- cycle schools in Accra, followed by choral music, poetry recitals and sketches by the students.
A re-enactment of Ghana’s independence struggle by actors from the two countries will then be staged on the evening of March 5 at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
Collaboration between the Ghanaian and Nigerian movie industries go quite some way back. Several films have been made as a result of the co-operation of actors from both sides frequently criss-crossing borders to work in a variety of productions.
Other programmes lined up for the visit of the Nigerian actors, according to the GAG president, included a football match between the two sides at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on March 6.
There will also be a dinner and an awards event at the Banquet Hall in Accra on March 8. The Nigerian delegation will leave on Sunday, March 9.
A delegation of Ghanaian actors is expected to pay a reciprocal visit to Nigeria in May.
