“This particular Black Stars team has had the same players being invited for the past five years, and it’s going to be difficult for a player to break into the team even if that player is very good.”

#GhanaGist: Nobody asked ‘former’ Ghanaian musician Screwface for any bribe – Charterhouse responds to VGMA bribery allegation
Organisers of the prestigious Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Charterhouse have responded to the allegation by Screwface, born Jehoshaphat Kwabena Eshun that he was asked to bribe someone during the 2007 edition of the awards.
In 2007, Screwface with “Bue Bue” was nominated in the Discovery of the Year category which he eventually lost to King Ayisoba. In a post on his facebook page after many years of being mute, Screwface posted that, he lost the award because he didn’t pay a bribe supposedly demanded by someone at Charterhouse Productions.

Part of the statement issued by the Head of Communications at Charterhouse, George Quaye read, “We are in the dark as to why Screw face would disseminate such an atrocious fabrication 10 years after he lost out to King Ayisoba. But what we do know for sure is that deep down his heart, he knows that nobody asked him for any bribe, because no one individual can make you win any VGMA category.”
He described the allegation as “unfortunate”, continuing that, it is “a cheap publicity stunt from an artiste who is clearly desperately seeking attention after years of a lacklustre career.”
Read the full statement available to GhanaGist.Com below …
Charterhouse Productions, organizers of the annual Ghana Music Awards has read with total disdain a post on the facebook wall of ‘former’ Ghanaian musician, Jehoshaphat Kwabena Eshun, stage named Screw face, but known on facebook as Screw Faze, a bribery claim seeking to bring to disrepute, Ghana’s biggest awards scheme, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
In the post, Screw face alleges that he did not win his 2007 Ghana Music Awards Discovery of the Year nomination because he refused to pay a bribe supposedly demanded by an unnamed staff of Charterhouse Productions.
The organizers of the VGMA’s would like to state on authority that this claim is unfounded, reprehensible and totally fictitious.
At the eight edition of the Ghana Music Awards in 2007, “Bue Bue”, a breakthrough track from Screw Face which featured Castro, earned the former a nomination in the discovery of the year category. In the running for that award as well were Ewura Esi, Ohemaa Mercy, Abigail Bedjabeng and King Ayisoba, who won the category with the track “I want to see you my father”.
King Ayisoba would go on to win the traditional artiste of the year and the most popular song of the year, which was the biggest honour of the night at the time.
Screwface accepted defeat and even congratulated King Ayisoba as evident in an interview he granted ghanaweb.com few weeks after the event.
“The young musician who was nominated for the 2007 Ghana Music Award as a Discovery of the year but lost the award to King Ayisoba said he doesn’t feel bad losing that award BECAUSE HE THINKS THE WINNER ALSO DESERVES IT. According to him, to be nominated in a category brings you to the lime light and everybody notices your effort”
We are in the dark as to why Screw face would disseminate such an atrocious fabrication 10 years after he lost out to King Ayisoba. But what we do know for sure is that deep down his heart, he knows that nobody asked him for any bribe, because no one individual can make you win any VGMA category.
Except for the special recognition categories which are usually non-competitive and given to honour an industry great in collaboration with the Musicians Union of Ghana, all other categories are won exclusively by the combined and compiled results of the VGMA Board and Academy voting as well as the votes from the general public.
The collation of these votes is done by the worlds’ second largest accounting firm, KPMG, who would NEVER compromise on their hard earned integrity for any musician, the VGMA board or event organizers, Charterhouse.
Yes, sometimes we may not totally agree with the winner of a category, especially when that winner isn’t our favourite artiste, but that is the process of all the votes as diligently compiled by KPMG-event statisticians. No one sees these results until the sealed pack is delivered live onstage by the team from KPMG.
So how could anyone have taken money from Screwface to make him win the 2007 discovery of the year category? Or is he perhaps alluding or alleging that King Ayisoba won because he paid a bribe? The same person he had earlier granted interviews to commend?
Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Lord Kenya, Reggie Rockstone, Kwabena Kwabena, Okyeame Quame, Ofori Amponsah, Becca, Efya, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and a lot more industry greats have all won a GMA plaque at some point in their careers. Is Jehoshaphat Eshun suggesting that they won because they paid bribes? Thank God they are all alive to tell their winning stories.
It is a very unfortunate assertion and a cheap publicity stunt from an artiste who is clearly desperately seeking attention after years of a lacklustre career. Our advice to young Jehoshaphat Eshun is to return to the studio, release a great track and hopefully he can become the star he so desperately wants to be.
Regarding this ludicrous and totally fictitious bribery allegation, it would be in his best interest to either prove it or shut it, before he’s asked to prove it in a court of competent jurisdiction.
The VGMA’s welcomes discerning and varying opinions and does not seek to gag anyone with any genuine concerns related to the scheme. Abuse of any kind, false allegations that seek to defame and denigrate the brand in any way, will however not be tolerated.
Thank you.
George Quaye

#GhanaGist New Music: Gospel musician Nacee sings about how some men maltreat their women in “Minewaa”
Ghanaian award winning gospel musician, Nacce makes a debut with a love song titled “Meniwaa”
“Meniwaa” tells an emotional story of how some men mistreat the women they started life with; women who toiled with them in their journey to success and who supported them when they had nothing.
The ace musician, member of No Tribe Group through the new song is embarking on a counselor campaign to reach out to the public and to teach them to practice love in the manner in which the Bible teaches us.
His counselor approach is his way of appealing to his fans and all listeners to realize the true values of love. Nacee strongly believes if the pastors can preach about sex in church, he is equally eligible to sing about love and touch on sex related topics because these are everyday human-related topics of grave concern.
The song “Minewaa” which has a touch of highlife, blended with a classic African rhythm was produced by Nacee himself and Oshobo. This is one of many such songs to be expected from Nacee on his “Counselor” album which will be released later this year.

“I love being an independent artiste with my own label because it allows me to express my art the way I want to do it. I can do fun ragga dancehall songs like Rock My Body or be more serious like in Africa. Leno is more about the romantic side of life,” the Upper West musician commented.
“Leno”, written and composed by Wiyaala, is the third single to be released from her eponymous album. It is distributed on the Djimba World Records label by JTV Digital in Paris and is available on iTunes and all digital platforms worldwide. #GhanaGist: Removing manhood on stage: Will Wisa make Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2016?
Sunday January 31, 2016 was the official deadline for submission of entries for this year’s edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), which has started in earnest.
Indeed, the annual awards bring lots of excitement to practitioners in the music industry, fans and most especially to every musician who has worked hard in the year under review, because such musicians will be rewarded with nominations and eventually a musician might walk home with an award.
Nominations for musicians, managers, record labels to submit entries for consideration into this year’s awards were opened on January 1, 2016 for musical works released between January 1, 2015 to January 31, 2015.
Reports suggests that hundreds of entries from musicians all over Ghana in different genres have been received which paves way for the actual work to begin in terms of categorisation and verifying that works submitted were indeed released between January 1, 2015 and January 31, 2015.
Interest
A lot of musicians are in anticipation to see who gets nominated for which category. Though promising artiste Wisa, is currently facing prosecution at an Accra Circuit Court for gross indecent exposure at the Decemba 2 Rememba concert at the Conference Centre in Accra on December 24, 2015, organised by an Accra based Citi FM, he has hinted his interest in the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards slated for May 2016.
“My legal issue has no connection with the upcoming VGMA or anything of that sort, so let’s just wait and see what happens. It will be very cool if I am nominated. I know I deserve the award,” he told Showbiz last week. Could it be that, he put up that stunt just for the awards? Well, you can never trust these musicians.
Such words from him mean that he has submitted his works to be considered for the awards and most preferably in the New Artiste of the Year category. But does he deserve a nomination at all?
New Artiste of the Year definition
Per the category definition of the awards, for an artiste to be considered for nomination and subsequently win it, such a new artiste should have been able to wow and made a great impact with his or her first released single or album during the year under review.
The definition of the category read; “New Artiste of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the most promising and talented new artiste(s). The award goes to the artiste(s) who made the most impact with his/her FIRST release (Single/Album) during the year under review.”
Looking at the definition of the category, I strongly believe and I’m very certain that Wisa wowed with his first released song Ekiki Me featuring Luther and that makes him a sure bet for the category. He merits a nomination there.
Until his shameful act on Christmas Eve, he was perhaps the most favourite for that particular category and stood a good chance of taking the award home. But circumstances have changed now, in terms of the public appeal for new songs released by new artistes. I have no doubt that, his was on top.
Also, even though he made some level of impact with the song, it is not what you can describe as strong enough to win him the award because, aside the song being big; that ‘bigness’, that authoritative nature, that posture is not felt from the artiste whenever he is on stage to perform.
Perhaps, he was always overwhelmed and in the process forgetting that, it was the song that made him get the opportunity to be on those platforms to perform to thousands of patrons.
Decemba 2 Rememba
On that stage and after the show, a video that was uploaded on video sharing site, YouTube showed Wisa rubbing the buttocks of a well-endowed dancer with his penis to give meaning to the song he was performing then. The song is titled Slow Motion, a nauseating profane-to-the-core song.
Wisa had a big song before the show but he became a lot bigger after with almost everyone talking about him as a result of his shameful act in the presence of some well-respected people in our society.
His songs
He has several songs which are on rotation in La. This includes his breakthrough song Ekiki Me which managed to become a national phenomenon.
Every artiste one way or the other has songs with explicit content but they are done in a manner which is tasteful. Wisa has the penchant for doing only hardcore profane songs which are really distasteful.
As a musician, one has to be creative in how they put words together to make a song. If you have to sing about sexual situations, it has to be done well and not in a profane manner. Wisa must learn that art, if he wants to have a future in the music fraternity.
Court
Though the case is in court following his arrest by the Accra Regional Police Command on December 25, 2015 for exposing his penis on stage in the full glare of the audience, his counsel Mr Jerry Avenorgbo is arguing that Wisa put out his performance for the “beauty of entertainment”, adding that, what Wisa showed on stage was not his penis.
“On the next adjourned date, my client will prove that he did not do what he has been accused of. If we open our defence, those who are accusing him will understand the beauty of entertainment art.”
But prior to that, Wisa had recorded a song to apologise for his indecent exposure and moving from one media house to the other to render an apology. Clearly what his counsel is saying and what he’s doing are at variance.
VGMA Board
In the 16 years of the awards, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has taken a strong stance against songs which are sexually explicit. At some point, some musicians were invited to face the Board to explain the context of their lyrics which are considered morally unfit for the scheme.
As a result, musicians and songs have been barred from contesting. A fortnight ago, I spearheaded a campaign to have musicians who unnecessarily and deliberately attack the scheme and the Board to be banned for some number of years or for the year that, the incidence occurs.
Again, I do not think it will be out of place for the Board to start taking a strong stance against musicians such as Wisa who openly showed his penis in the full glare of the audience at an event such as Decemba 2 Rememba platform.
Whereas in the Western world, Wisa would be hailed but down here such things are alien to us and it’s high time that, the scheme and the system is sanitised.
If Wisa makes the New Artiste category, it means he will be in other categories because he had a good year as a result of the controversy.
Imagine he’s nominated in the same category with the likes of Okyeame Kwame, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Bisa K’Dei and other respected musicians. How did he get in there if not by showing his erected penis and it won’t be good enough.

#GhanaGist: Majid Michel says he’s not a Ghanaian actor but rather an actor from Ghana
Star actor Majid Michel has stated that he is not a Ghanaian actor but rather he is an actor from Ghana.
He made this controversial statement at the press launch of Kofas Media’s new movie project “Amakye & Dede”.
During the Q & A section of the conference Majid Michel was asked if there is a funny bone in him and if there is how he can make viewers of “Amakye & Dede” laugh when it’s finally out.
This question came forth because Majid has not been casted for a lot of comic movies.
In respond to the question, Majid said that he believes acting as an art is universal and every actor has a challenge that he wants conquer.
“Well I am an actor and I believe acting is an act and art is universal… I am not a Ghanaian actor; I am an actor from Ghana. So I was there as an actor and this director said he wants me for a film and I said what is it about and he said this is it.”
Majid also revealed that, being in a movie with Kalybos will be a challenge to him as an actor.
“Every actor has his challenge in front of him every time that what is next to challenge me, what is next to say this will be a challenge and he wants to take it on to prove to himself that ‘errm’ I have conquered the next challenge.”
“Well you have to usually stick to what you are strong at, unless you are daring to go otherwise and then if you fail you come back to say that ok this is not for me. Being in a movie with Kalybos will be challenging and i can only see my success after the film so if it fails i will stay off it but now let’s see what happens.”
Majid Michel has starred in a lot of local and foreign movies and is currently part of the cast for Amakye & Dede.

#GhanaGist: I’ll campaign for Mahama again, but I’m scared for my life – Mr Beautiful
Popular Ghanaian actor, Clement Bonney, has promised to rally some of his fellow screen actors to openly campaign for the re-election of President John Dramani Mahama during the November 11 general elections just as he did four years ago, even though he admitted he was scared for his life for alleged threats made against celebrities who plan to hit the President’s campaign trail.
Known in showbiz circles as ‘Mr Beautiful’, Bonney revealed to the Graphic Showbiz that he was working closely with screen stars John Dumelo, Kalsoume Sinare, Selassie Ibrahim, Effo, Pattington Papa Nii Papafio, DJ Willi, among other celebrities, to help Prez Mahama retain his seat and would soon roll out their plans for the campaign trail.
In spite of his open declaration of support for the President since the 2012 election campaign, Mr Beautiful said recent alleged threats by the Ashanti Regional NPP chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, warning artistes against openly campaigning for President Mahama in Kumasi, has made him very scared.
Already smarting from being left in the lurch by Kumasi-based movie producers who have refused to cast the witty actor for compaigning for the ruling NDC, Mr Beautiful says his life is in danger and would hold ‘Chairman Wuntumi’ liable for anything harmful that happens to him in the course of soliciting for votes for the President.
He has, therefore, called on the national security to call the politician to order for seeking to incite hate against him and his fellow entertainers for exercising their freedom of choice and association.
“Yes, I am worried for my life and that of my colleagues. Chairman Wuntumi should be monitored, before, during and after elections,” said the actor.
“Chairman Wuntumi should have talked about policies rather than trying to create division and victimizing people. That is just a childish way of doing politics and it will not help in national development.”
Explaining his professed love for President Mahama, Mr Beautiful said he was drawn to the NDC because of the vision and policies for the arts and entertainment industry, and does not regret campaigning for the ruling party since he is a direct beneficiary of the policies being implemented by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
“President Mahama loves the creative arts and he has policies in store to develop our industry and there is the need for us the stake holders to come out and support him.
“Through the vision and policies of President Mahama, my colleagues and I have had the opportunity to travel abroad to attend film festivals.
“ We have learned about cinematography and other elements that make up a good movie which we never had the opportunity to learn before,” he explained.

In this instance, one must volunteer and let go of this girl. But misunderstanding crops in hence rules had to be put in place. They agreed to go solo and stick to their A-game individually and whoever wins the girl will have the support of the other.
The plot turns more hilarious when both of them had to go through individual mysterious procedures to win the heart of the girl, but at the end of the day, the lady can only fall for one.
With Kalybos starring as ‘Amakye’ and Majid starring as ‘Dede’ fighting for the love of Ahuofe Patri, one will definitely conclude the movie will be the best production from KOFAS media.
The question now is, “Who wins Ahuofe Patri after the fight?”

Apostle John Prah, Kofi Asamoah, Nabil Meizongo and Majid Michel

#GhanaGist: Love Series with Akumaa Mama Zimbi: Reasons for Love | Chapter 1
Throughout my years of helping people with how to choose the right partner for marriage, and also helping couples solve marital problems, I have come across sensitive but usually overlooked questions like managing Joint Account in marriage, when couples have different work shifts, how much money should a man spend on marriage rings, should a lady contribute financially for her wedding, when to accept a marriage proposal, when to divorce, dealing with troublesome in-laws and step children, can a married woman make a Will, how to manage abuses in marriage, and how to satisfy your husband or wife sexually.
People marry for many reasons like ‘love’, happiness, money, companionship, physical attraction, desire to escape from an unhappy situation and the desire to have children. Most couple’s marriage life is filled up with achievable and non achievable expectations. Some of the expectations will be realistic while others unrealistic. This is due to the complex nature of marriage, and each individual is as complex as how we arrive at the decision to marry. For me, marriage goes beyond these interests.
I always say to my listeners and viewers on radio and TV that there are no definite answers to issues in human relations like relationships and marriage. But the subjective views from a marriage counselor, relationship expert and sex educator like me, and with the knowledge you have acquired from others and from your own experience will help you shape your relationship or marriage for the better.
Personally, I don’t claim to have answers to every relationship or marriage issues, but I strongly believe that understanding the institution of marriage will surely help you to lift a standard against the fierce flood that always seek to devour our relationships and marriages. This is because if you keep on doing the same old things you are likely to get the same old results.
There is no doubt that the choice of a marital partner is one of the most important decisions one makes in his or her lifetime, and this is one basic challenge that this series seek to make easier for all those who are yet to enter into marriage and also offer adequate, practical and sustainable knowledge for all those who are already in marriage.
However, I see marriage really as not just the form or type chosen, but a conscious and holy agreement, commitment with love and responsibility for peace. Marriage is about sacrificing your freedom to attain the ultimate happiness of your partner and your descendants. It involves emotional and legal commitments. This is why I keep saying that a relationship or even courtship is not the stage to know everything about your partner. Neither is marriage the stage to meet shock and surprises about your partner.
What are your reasons for falling in love? Are you going to achieve them? Think about it. Medaase (meaning Thank You).
