Reggae Musician Ekow Micah Is Likely To Serve 5 Years In Prison For Possessing Weed

Reggae musician Ekow Micah is likely to be jailed for five years if he found guilty for possessing weed. Legal practitioner, Adusei Poku said this during an interview with Hitz FM’s entertainment this week with MzGee.

Mr Micah has been charged with a narcotics-related offence but the offence is in respect of possession, it is different from when you are exporting it that carries a different sentence in law and it is normally seen as non-bailable.”

“For smoking or possession in your room for use which has been detected, that is bailable and the maximum sentence is five years”.

According to the Airport Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Yaw Tetegah, the embattled musician was initially picked up by the police to aid investigations into allegations of rape and sodomy against Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan.

However, the police, during a search at his residence, found substances that have been confirmed as weed.

After appearing in court last Friday for possession of narcotics, Ekow Micah was remanded into police custody to reappear on August 20, 2015.

Ekwo Micah

Ekwo Micah

Mr Adusei said the court’s decision to deny Ekow bail during first appearance on Friday, August 7, is normal.

He, however, disputes suggestions that narcotic offences are not bailable.

“Narcotic offences generally are not bailable but my view is that every offence is bailable. The reason is simply this, sometimes the ingredient for the offence which the person has been charged with maybe nonexistent and for that reason the court can grant bail in certain circumstances…” the legal practitioner observed.

“You remember Kwaw Kese case, when it came up everyone said it was non-bailable but subsequently he got bail on medical grounds,” he cited.

Mr Adusei added that one’s status in society cum the evidence and circumstance of the case determines their fate in court.

“The law in its pure form says everyone is equal but that is what I call the legal myth. The reality is different. If you commit certain offences, depending on your stature in society you may never get bail. For instance, assault is seen as a misdemeanor but if you go and God forbid assault the president of Ghana, it is a bailable offence but the circumstances will determine whether the offence is bailable or not. Your status in society counts because they want to be sure that they are not granting bail to riffraffs who won’t come and face the law”.

Asamoah Gyan’s Sèx Partner, Sarah Kwablah Speaks “I Have Been Advised To Stay Away From The Media War”

According to a report by Razz Newspaper, the plot to the Asamoah Gyan-Sarah Kwabla alleged sèx tape thickens by the day with new developments and new twists emerging as the case still goes through investigations by the Ghana police.

The lady in the middle of these allegations, Sarah Kwablah who has been branded by some observers as the victim and also as a leader of the scheme to blackmail Asamoah Gyan finally granted Razz Newspaper an interview, after several months of remaining dead silent over the issue.

Sarah explained to the paper that, her reason for staying mute over the matter is because; the case is with the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and her lawyers advised her not to speak on the issue.

“I have been advised to stay away from the media war so, I am doing so. With time, we will know the truth,” she said.

Speaking about the involvement of entertainment journalist, Osarfo Anthony and musician, Ekow Micah in the issue: she disclosed that initially, when the issue came up, she had no one to talk to and seek advice from, so she went to Ekow Micah for advise and for him to help her name off the blackmailing allegations and also to help her get justice.

According to her, Ekow listened to her issues and suggested the involvement of Osarfo Anthony, who was supposed to help with publications of her ordeal.Asamoah Gyan

She stated that Ekow convinced her that Osarfo is a friend of his and could help out with the publication of the happenings between herself and Asamoah Gyan.

However, she also stated that, Ekow Micah recorded their conversation during their first meeting, unbeknownst to her.

“All along, I had already given Ekow one tape to listen to a conversation between me and Asamoah Gyan in order for him to believe my story, so when he recorded me- he added the two tapes that have I and Asamoah Gyan and gave them to Osarfo without my consent,“she said.

Commenting on the ensuing allegation of extortion and blackmail leveled against the likes of Osarfo Anthony and Ekow Michah, Sarah stated that, she’s not involved in that allegations and does not believe that the two accused had anything to do with any form of extortion or blackmail.

“I will be shocked if Ekow Micah really planned that because of Ghc25,000. I would believe the story somehow if the amount in question is Ghc 1 million, but Ghc 25,000 is too small for a musician of his kind and why should Osarfo even attempt to take money in the first place? I thought his enthusiasm came from a passion for the truth with regards to his job” she hinted.
She strongly believes that everything going on with Osarfo and Ekow is a trap that was well set by Samuel Anim Addo, the manager for Asamoah Gyan.

She also claimed that, Anim Addo set a similar trap for her former lawyer, Maurice Ampaw but the latter came out unscathed.
Reacting to news making rounds that, she’s been avoiding the Police, she stated, she is yet to receive any official invitation from the police.

Additionally Tigo has also constructed a staff common room, a Headmaster’s office and toilet facilities.

At a short ceremony in Obeng Yaw, the Headmaster, pupils and entire community gathered at the forecourt of the new school building to officially receive the keys to the school from Tigo.

The CEO for Tigo, Roshi Motman, said Tigo’s ‘Shelter 4 Education’ initiative is aimed at providing good infrastructure for quality teaching and learning in rural Ghana.

I Am Not Stealing Sarkodie’s Shine – Quophi Okyeame On History In The Making Concert

$
0
0

Musician and radio presenter, Quophi Okyeame, is defiant in his criticism of ace hiplife/rap artiste, Sarkodie, and says he won’t be cowed into submission by personal attacks and bashing he’s been receiving from some Ghanaian artistes in reaction to his comments on Sarkodie’s History in the Making concert which took place last Saturday at the famous Apollo Theatre in the United States.

“I won’t shut up and I am not shutting up,” was the Rainbow Radio presenter’s counter-punch, an indication his preparedness to defend of his comments which have been interpreted as a personal attack on Sarkodie.

Formerly known in showbiz circles as Okyeame Quophi during his heyday with the defunct music group Akyeame, Quophi Okyeame incurred the wrath of fans of the ‘Rapperholic’ star as well as Reggie Rockstone who have questioned the motive for a message on his Facebook wall which sought to downplay the historical significance of Sarkodie’s performance at New York city’s iconic arena.

“Akyeame was the first Hiplife duo to play at the Apollo Theatre to a mix crowd so huge the police came to stop the show. This was in 2000 with Daddy Lumba.

Don’t distort the history. Which history is in the making?” wrote Quophi Okyeame, who presents Away Bus on Accra-based Rainbow Radio.

He explained that his post on Facebook in reaction to Sarkodie’s concert was not to undermine the latter’s success but “to save history from being distorted”.

Quophi Okyeame

Quophi Okyeame

“What I’m saying is a fact that doesn’t need defence. If those criticising me don’t know the facts, it doesn’t mean it never happened. Well, I am not ready to shut up and I am not shutting up because this is my legacy,” he told Showbiz in an interview on Tuesday.

Rockstone, the man credited for the birth of hiplife in Ghana, took a swipe at Quophi Okyeame’s comments, describing it as one that smacks of jealousy and hatred for Sarkodie’s success.

But the man in the eye of the storm disagrees with the ‘Hiplife Grandpapa’, as he sought to state the facts more strongly about his earlier romance at the Apollo Theatre.

“I am not stealing Sarkodie’s shine. Besides, I am an ordained pastor and I don’t need any shine for anything but the facts must be stated. Somebody cannot take the glory for something that he hasn’t achieved.

“The records are there for anyone to verify. I even stated 2000 in my post but it was rather in 1999. Akyeame and Lumba headlined that concert in 1999 and Ofori Amponsah was part of the performers on the day. KKD was the MC for the night so, there are people alive today who can confirm or deny what I’m saying.

“Reggie Rockstone himself was billed to perform but couldn’t make it because he had some few challenges with the organisers. Why would I lie about this?

“This is my legacy and I have told my children what I achieved as a musician. Do you want them to see me as a liar?” he queried. “Nothing will stop me from speaking the truth. Without a past, there cannot be a present so let us present the truth and nothing else,” he stated.

Quophi Okyeame, who could not hide his pride in the achievements of Akyeame, a duo that featured Okyeame Kwame, recounted how in his heyday they staged shows at some of the popular event centres around the world, including the Oval Hall in the UK, Howard University in Washington and the Apollo Theatre, among others.

For him, it was surprising how people assumed it wasn’t the right time for him to come out to challenge the accuracy of Sarkodie’s claim.

“Well, I want to know what time will be best for me to do this. In 20 years when Sarkodie isn’t reigning anymore? I should be the biggest fool to do that.

“As I said earlier, this is my legacy which I must protect and no amount of insults or vilification will make me shut up. Besides, I don’t even care about what they say or write because I have also adopted the ‘dead goat’ syndrome. Let’s just put history where it belongs,” he added.

Celebrity Column: ‘All Hard Work Bears Fruit’ – Peace Hyde

Hello and welcome to a Piece of Peace your weekly dose of motivation and inspiration. This week I would like to share with you on the topic, “All Hard Work Bears Fruit.”

I gave a talk this week to a group of young girls at the Girls Education Initiative of Ghana, started by the inspirational Vlisco woman of the year winner Elizabeth Patterson. Her initiative supports girls, including those with special needs to get access to Education.

I was invited to give a talk about my struggles with dyslexia and during my talk, I was a 13-year-old girl made an interesting comment. She told me it was her dream to become a TV presenter and a journalist, but she thinks it will be too much hard work so she would rather stick to one and become a journalist instead.

Not wanting to depress the poor girl with one of my long motivational epilogues, I told her she could be whatever she wanted to be so long as she had the passion for it. If she doesn’t want to do both, that means she has more passion for one career path than the other. The answer is simple. Follow what you cannot live a day without doing.

I think that was a safe enough answer and I was confident she understood every single word until Elizabeth highlighted to me later on that the young girls mostly struggle to understand her American accent so she hopes they could grasp my British one.

In hindsight I think the little girl nodded a lot more than she should have. Anyway, that question made me think. How much hard work is enough to achieve your dreams.

The concept of hard work is one that is elusive. Firstly, what constitutes hard work? Secondly, how do you know you are working hard or how much of it you are doing? Finally, what level of reward do you need at the end of that hard work to make it worth doing it all over again? The simple answer is, any productive venture that you work around the clock to achieve and dedicate a significant amount of the working day towards achieving constitutes hard work. The salient point here is any productive venture. A productive venture is an activity that aids you in your goal of achieving positive results towards things that will push you towards your God given purpose.

That means, hard work never stops. It needs to be fed every single waking moment of your life and carried on throughout the day until you sleep only to be repeated all over again. At the point where you feel like you have given absolutely everything there is to give and you want to take it easy, that is usually the point where you need to keep going to achieve your breakthrough.

Most often when we go to church, and we hear prophecies of God’s miracles and God’s breakthrough being manifested in our lives, we tend to get complacent and think that all we need to do is to wait on God to show us his mercies. Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. Many individuals miss God’s blessings in their lives because they are fixated on the wait instead of focusing on the Grind. Nothing worth having comes easily. It requires persistent struggle, fighting and resilience to get the rewards that he has promised in your life.

So next time you feel like nothing positive is happening in your life, ask yourself, How much hard work are you putting in your grind. If you are putting in enough, then you will most likely see results. If the opposite is true, then roll up your sleeves and get on your grind. It will pay off. Trust the process, And always remember, be yourself, because everyone else is taken.

Much Love,

Peace Hyde.
