DStv and GOtv subscribers will enjoy the exclusive coverage of the 2014 edition of the African Nations Championships (CHAN), which begins on January 11th and ends on February 1st 2014 in South Africa. A total of thirty-two (32) matches will be played in the competition in three host cities: Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Polokwane and will be broadcasted live on SuperSport to all DStv and GOtv subscribers on all bouquets.
Sixteen nations including Ghana, South Africa, Mali, Nigeria, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Lybia and Congo will participate in this year’s competition. The other competing nations are Ethiopia, Gabon, Burundi, Congo DR, and Mauritania. After the high standard of play exhibited in the recently held 2013 GOtv WAFU competition, the winners of the competition, the Ghana Black Stars, remains a strong contender to win the 2014 CHAN competition.
The CHAN competition is held every two years, alternating with the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament and reserved for only players plying their trade in their domestic leagues. The maiden edition was held in 2009 in Côte d’Ivoire and was won by the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In 2011, the second edition was held in Sudan and the number of competing teams increased from eight (8) to sixteen (16).
Ghana has announced a final 23-man squad for the competition including goalkeepers Stephen Adams (Aduana Stars), Foli Adade (Medeama) and Isaac Amoako (Asante Kotoko). The defenders are Godfred Saka (Aduana Stars), Tijani Joshua (AshantiGold), Francis Morton (Ebusua Dwarfs), Kwabena Adusei, Abeiku Ainooson (Asante Kotoko), Nuru Sulley (Hearts of Oak) and Alfred Nelson (Liberty Professionals). The midfielders expected to carry out coach Maxwell Konadu’s tactics are Michael Akuffo, Jordan Opoku, Richard Mpong, Yahaya Mohammed (Asante Kotoko), Jackson Owusu (Berekum Chelsea), Theophilus Anobaah (Medeama), Aseidu Attorbrah (New Edubiase) and Latif Mohammed (AshantiGold). The strikers are Sulley Mohammed (King Faisal), Kennedy Boateng (Medeama), Paul De-Vries Asare (Wa All Stars), Samuel Afful (Hasaacas) and Seidu Bancey (Asante Kotoko).
